Design Technology

At St Minver School we intend to provide an inspiring, rigorous and practical design and technology education, which encourages children to think, discuss and plan so that they can solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team.

We aim to encourage ALL children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We will follow the Design and Technology National curriculum and wherever possible, link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. It will be planned and sequenced so that new knowledge and skills build on what has been taught before.

It is our goal that children learn how to become innovators and resourceful, take risks, enterprising and capable citizens, so that they have the knowledge and skills that are needed to take advantage of opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences in later life. In this way, we aim to address social disadvantage.

Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of how these impacts on daily life and the wider world. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.

By the end of each key stage, pupils will be expected to know, apply and understand the matters, skills and processes specified in the relevant programme of study. Clear end points will be identified so that children know how they are able to reach those end points. We will record a level of attainment and effort in Design and Technology on the child’s annual report to parents.
