Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy New Year! I hope you have all had a fantastic break and the children are raring to go! This term promises to be a busy one! The children are already getting excited about their new topic—Rainforest Explorers and enjoyed jumping on board our Greenaway plane, to travel all the way to Brazil to discover the amazing Amazon Rainforest. Did you know that the Amazon Rainforest is the largest tropical rainforest in the world? It is home to around 40,000 plants, 1,300 birds, 3,000 types of fish, 430 mammals and an incredible 2.5 million different insects! Sadly there is no trip to Brazil planned but we are hoping to visit the Eden Project later in the term (a letter will be sent out with further information nearer the time).
This term we will spend some of our story time sessions listening to ‘The Secret Explorers and the Rainforest Rangers’ by S J King.
Here is an outline of the things that happen every week:
Monday - Homework and spellings are given out. Visit to the library to choose a new book.
Wednesday - PE with Mr Rickard and music with Mrs Davis.
Friday - Active mile, spelling test, maths homework returned. PE with Mrs Cudmore.
Please can the children bring in a named water bottle each day. Please remember to send your child's PE kit into school in a named carrier bag ready for their PE lessons on a Wednesday and Friday afternoon. Don’t forget to send your child to school wearing their trainers and jogging bottoms on a Friday ready for our active mile in the morning.
For this term’s topic homework we would like the children to design a habitat in a shoe box. First get a shoebox. Next choose a habitat. Here are some ideas:- forest, sea, polar, rainforest, desert. Then decorate the inside of your shoebox to look like your habitat e.g. a forest habitat might have trees and leaves. After this add 3d animals (models or pictures either printed or drawn). There are lots of ideas online, just type habitat shoebox into google. Please bring into class on (or before) Monday 27th February. Thank you for your support!
We hope you will find this information useful. If you have any further questions or queries then please don’t hesitate to ask.
We look forward to a happy and enjoyable year in Greenaway Class!
Thank you for your support.
With very best wishes,
Mrs Cudmore (Class Teacher)
Mrs Mably and Mr Hawtin (Teaching Assistants)
