Sharing our Class book

We are really enjoying reading Michael Bond's Paddington stories as part of our topic on London this term. We are lucky enough to have a class set of one of these stories, 'Paddington at the Carnival', which we are exploring together in our group reading sessions. The children love having their own book to read and we follow the text together, taking it in turns to read aloud. We will revisit this book over several sessions, allowing us to explore different aspects of the text and giving the children the opportunity to get to know the book really well. This is super for building confidence when reading aloud and also for broadening their understanding of the story. After we've shared the story together we have a look at some comprehension questions based on the text with the 'Reading Gang'. These canine pals help us to look closely at the text and think more deeply about it. This is a fun way to develop key comprehension skills such as retrieval of information and sequencing events accurately. Do ask your children if they can tell you any of the names of the characters in the Reading Gang!
