Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to Year 6 where the teacher is Mr Baines assisted by Mrs Mayland and Mrs Hore.
So we find ourselves back in school at the start of another exciting year! I have planned some fabulous activities for your children in their final year at Primary School.
Our first term's topic is the Victorians and as well as studying this historic period of British history, the topic will be linked to our Literacy, Art and DT lessons too. In science, we will be looking at the topics of 'Light' and 'Inheritance and adaptation'. During RE lessons, we will focus on the 5 pillars of Islam and what it means to be a Muslim in Britain. Our PSHE lessons follow the topic is 'Being me in my world'. Art sessions will see children learning how to draw portrait and in DT we will study and make bridge structures inspired by designs by Victorian engineers such as Isambard Brunel, and other engineers who came after. Our music lessons will focus on music to evoke emotion, based on the pop song 'Happy' and in PE children will learn and improve their skills and play a range of invasion games, namely football and netball.
The class have 2 PE sessions each week, so please make sure your child comes to school dressed in PE kit, but with their school jumper also (as they did for the Active Mile Fridays) on MONDAYS and TUESDAYS.
Please see the leaflet below regarding homework expectations and further curriculum details.
