Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to Year 6 where the teacher is Mr Baines ably assisted by Mrs Cooke.

So finally we find ourselves back in school after an extremely long time away but here we are at the start of another exciting year! I have planned some fabulous activities for your children and whilst I will ensure a smooth transition back into school life, focusing on well-being and happiness, we have much to learn!

Our first term's topic is the Victorians and as well as studying this historic period of British history, the topic will be linked to our Literacy, Art and DT lessons too. In science, we will be looking at the topics of 'Light' and 'Classifying living things and micro-organisms'. During RE lessons, we will focus on the 5 pillars of Islam and in PSHE, our topic is 'Being me in my world'. Art sessions will see children learning how to draw portrait and in DT we will study and make bridge structures. Our music lessons will focus on music to evoke emotion, based on the pop song 'Happy' and in PE children will learn and improve their athletics skills and play a range of action, but socially distanced games.

Sadly, due to the closure of the leisure centre there will not be swimming this term.
However, we will ensure that the class have 2 PE sessions each week, so please make sure your child comes to school dressed in PE kit, but with their school jumper also (as they did for the Active Mile Fridays) on THURSDAYS and FRIDAYS.

Please see the letter (available below), regarding homework expectations.
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me via the home-schooling email address you may be familiar with from last term, as it will not be possible to catch me at the classroom door, due to social distancing. However, if you would rather speak to me, of course you can make an appointment for a conversation by telephone.
